Famous Musicians
Two of the most famous Stamfordians of the musical world have had some association with Stamford Choral.
Although he never directed the choir, Sir Malcolm Sargent, the famous conductor, was President for twenty years. The composer Michael Tippett attended Stamford School, and was a past President of the society.

Sir Malcolm Sargent Trust
Since Malcolm Sargent’s death in 1967, the Society has sought to celebrate his contribution to music with the ‘Malcolm Sargent Concert’, a concert given in conjunction with the Stamford Endowed Schools Choral Society. This takes place every three years, and the next one will be performed in 2019.

Forthcoming

This year our popular annual summer concert feature Leonard Bernstein's dramatic and sublime Chichester Psalms and John Rutter's tuneful and beautifully uplifting Requiem, both performed in their chamber versions which will include organ, harp, percussion, cello, oboe and flute. The programme will also feature beautiful instrumental music, including Morricone's 'Gabriel's Oboe' from the 1986 film The Mission. An exciting, moving and uplifting programme, not to be missed! Tickets will be available from the Arts Centre Box Office and choir members.

Rehearsals for the Summer Term start on 2nd April at Stamford Methodist Church, Barn Hill, Stamford. We will be preparing Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" and Rutter's "Requiem" for our summer concert. New singers are always welcome in the opening weeks of each term, so please do come along, if you're interested in singing with us. Please get in touch with us ahead of the new term for this particular term as arrangements are different to our usual schedule.
